An 18-year-old man who died in a single-vehicle crash in Cuming County over the weekend is now identified as William Smeal of rural Snyder.
Smeal was a 2023 graduate of West Point-Beemer High School.
According to a press release from the Cuming County Sheriff’s Office, at around 2:55 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, a call was received by Cuming County dispatch from Dodge County dispatch regarding a one-vehicle accident on A Road, located between 12 Road and 13 Road.
The crash site is situated approximately 10 miles southwest of West Point or 3 miles north of Snyder.
According to an official release, a Buick Lacrosse CXL has been discovered in a creek near a bridge on A Road. The vehicle was travelling in an eastbound direction when it veered off the road, making contact with the bridge in a minor collision.
According to the sheriff’s office, Smeal was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a collaborative effort, the Cuming and Dodge County Sheriff’s offices, along with Snyder Fire and Rescue, Cuming County Emergency Management, and the Cuming County Attorney’s Office, responded to the scene.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
