The 46th Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin was born on November 16th, 1985 in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland.

Sanna Marin was born to Lauri Marin who struggled with alcoholism and as a result was separated from his wife as the family suffered deteriorating financial conditions.

After her parents got divorced, Marin’s mother became the only parent securing her financial needs and bringing her up and they moved in with her mother’s female partner.

At the age of 19, Marin received her diploma from Pirkkala High School (Pirkkalan Yhteislukio) in 2004. She supported herself while she was in school by working in a bakery and as a cashier, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in administrative science from the University of Tampere.

From 2010 until 2012, Sanna Marin served as the Social Democratic Party’s first vice president after joining the organization in 2006. She unsuccessfully sought election to Tampere’s City Council in 2008, but she campaigned again in 2012 and was successful.
